The Kaikōura Ocean Research Institute (KORI) is seeking 1 – 2 summer interns to assist with our Penguin Education and Awareness Programme (PEAP).

  • Duration: Mid/Late November – February/early March 2019.
  • Commitment: Approx. 20 hours/week (mostly evenings).
  • Roles:
    • Leading PEAPS –
      • Delivering presentations on penguin conservation, and introducing the group to Kaikōura’s little blue penguins at KORI’s purpose-built viewing area.
      • PEAPS will mostly take place in the evening, with occasional day-time PEAPS for school groups. Each PEAP lasts around 2.5 hours, including set-up and clean-up.
    • Coordinating bookings with visitors/local groups and schools.
    • Promoting the programme on social media.
    • Interns will also assist with weekly monitoring of the colony, including egg and chick weighing and report and grant writing.
